My friend Lisa Goldman, who is a Canadian-Israeli and an internationally recognized blogger/journalist is currently under police investigation in Israel for traveling to enemy territory (she visited Lebanon twice last summer, working on articles for major Israeli media). If convicted, Goldman could face up to 4 years in prison.
There are two other Israeli journalist who are being charged by the police. Please see Lisa’s blog for more information.
Not surpirsingly, the media in Israel (and Lebanon) has been all over this. It is only a short time before this becomes an international story.
On Friday, Lisa will publish her account of this ordeal in Haaretz. I will make sure to keep you updated. In the meantime, please show your love and support for Lisa by visiting her excellent blog On The Face.

I am not sure I even understand the reason for the investigation. Lisa has a Canadian passport and is allowed to travel wherever she wishes.
Make sure to keep us all updated with her whereabouts. It is pretty scary to think that in Israel the police will find the resources to spend on this. I have read Lisa’s blog and she is amongst very well know journalist that faces the same situation. I will make sure to read the Haretz article. Keep us all posted.

Lisa knew what she was doing was against the law.
Had she been caught she would have caused problems for Israel as they might decide to negotiate for her release.
The argument that the law is enforced selectively is really no excuse. The solution to that isn’t not to enforce it on Lisa but to enforce it on the others as well.
Some people are so arrogant as to think that they are beyond the law. Lisa did the crime, she should be willing now to do the time.

Hey Gus, I see that you are leaving the same comment on a number of pro-Goldman blogs. I am going to have to disgaree with you, but to know why you will have to return and read my forthcoming piece on the subject.
